I was born in Niagara Falls, New York. I have been drawing literally since I could breathe, according to my Mother.
I grew up in Tonawanda, New York, and majored in Art and minored in Music in High School. To this day I can't say which medium I prefer to work in- I love them both.
At home, my father and I would have daily "cartoon contests" where one of us would start a drawing, and the other would add to it until it got wittier and crazier to the point of hilarity. One result of this was a cartoon course that I created to teach people how to draw their own cartoons. It was very popular both in New York and California.
I won the Certificate of Commendation for Outstanding Work for the State of New York in High School, then went on to Parsons School of Design in Manhattan. I graduated from Parsons School of Design in New York City in 1985, and hold a Bachelor of Fine Arts.
I did my internship at Milton Glaser's design studio in New York. I continued to live in Manhattan for 2 years after graduation, working as a graphic designer at PC Magazine.
So then, in 1987, I moved back to Buffalo. I started painting. I exhibited my work in various Buffalo, New York galleries at that time.
In 1991, I was very lucky to study advanced illustration with the late Alan E. Cober at the University of New York at Buffalo. He helped me take my work to a new level of realism that stays with me to this day.
My artistic focus has always centered on people. I am fascinated by faces and hands, and how they tell the inner story of where a person has come from, and who they are. I now reside in Monterey, California, and am involved in illustration, graphic design, and sculpture.
